Ensure that presenters in locations with stricter internet rules can connect to your webinar
BigMarker allows for anyone in the world to connect as a presenter or an attendee. However, there are some locations where this can be difficult for a number of reasons. China is one of these locations, and in this article we’ll go over how to ensure presenters from there have no issues.
Note: By default, BigMarker channels do not have access to the presenter server located in China, and virtual attendees located in China may have difficulty connecting. For further details and to enable this access, please reach out to your customer success manager.
Updating the webinar location
Once the Chinese region is enabled, you have the ability to choose it as a location for your webinars. The location determines which server location presenters will connect to. This is a necessary step to allow presenters within China can connect easily to the platform.
However, if you have multiple international presenters inside and outside of China, you should select a server location that is most central to all of your presenters. Presenters located in China will still be able to connect.
Visit this guide for more information on configuring this for your channel and webinars.
Changing webinar settings
Because users in China may have certain services blocked from them, it’s important to turn off a few things within the webinar room. These settings connect BigMarker to Google, Youtube and Facebook, and turning them off ensures the best performance for your presenters
Within the Edit tab of the webinar dashboard, you’ll want to find the following Advanced Settings and disable them:
- Google Translation
- Facebook live stream
- Youtube live stream
- Youtube video
With all of these set, you presenters will be ready to go!
User Experience
As part of the setup that the BigMarker team will do to set this up on your channel, you will be given a separate URL domain. Users located in china will automatically be redirected to this new domain when they visit any link from your channel. This means you can share the same landing page or presenter links with everyone, and attendees and presenters will be redirected to the appropriate version based on their location..
